About This Place

Located on the vibrant Howden Street in Edinburgh, tapas3 offers an authentic and intimate Spanish tapas dining experience that delights both locals and visitors alike. Specializing in traditional tapas with a modern touch, this cozy restaurant and bar invites you to savor the true essence of Spanish cuisine through carefully crafted dishes made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

The menu at tapas3 is a celebration of Spain’s rich culinary heritage, featuring standout dishes like the irresistibly crispy Patatas Bravas, succulent Gambas Al Pil Pil bursting with garlicky warmth, and the ever-popular smoky Pimientos Padron. Each plate delivers vibrant flavors and textures—whether it's the creamy homemade croquetas, the tender Albondigas Con Salsa Jardinera meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce, or the comforting Spanish classic, Tortilla Española, elevated here with a special chorizo and Manchego twist that real food lovers will cherish.

Guests also rave about the sophisticated bar offerings: the expertly mixed Espresso Martini and the refreshingly zesty Mojito perfectly complement the savory delights on your plate. For those who appreciate fine cured meats, the Tabla Jamones presents an exquisite selection of Iberico hams, paired perfectly with a glass of Estrella on tap or a crisp cocktail. The Spanish Cheese Tasting Selection alongside fig cake and quince jelly brings an indulgent finish or a luxurious mid-meal pause.

The atmosphere at tapas3 is equally inviting. Guests often describe it as a warm, romantic gem tucked away from the bustle of the city, with cozy lighting that sets an intimate, relaxed mood perfect for date nights or casual gatherings. The friendly and attentive staff, even when managing busy nights with limited team members, handle service with efficiency and genuine care, helping guests navigate the menu with ease and enthusiasm. This meticulous attention to hospitality elevates the whole dining experience, making each visit memorable.

Customer reviews echo this sentiment vividly: Matthew Simpson calls the place “out of this world,” praising everything from the perfectly cooked prawns to the chorizo and croquettes, all impeccably executed. Linden Craig describes tapas3 as a “hidden gem” with unforgettable drinks like the passion fruit martini crafted from fresh juice, highlighting the passion behind every detail. Lily Graham was “blown away” during her first night in Edinburgh, especially by the friendly staff and delicious sangria. Even those arriving without reservations, like Dick Sibley, found the short but focused menu and intimate setting more than worth the wait.

It’s clear that tapas3 doesn’t just serve tapas—they create authentic Spanish moments full of flavor, warmth, and passion. Whether you’re craving the rich umami of black pudding paired with baked goat cheese or the sweet contrast of crispy Berenjenas Con Miel (fried aubergines with honey), this is a place where every bite tells a story. For anyone seeking a sensory plunge into Spain’s best-loved culinary traditions without leaving Edinburgh, tapas3 promises a dining experience that is both genuine and unforgettable.

This restaurant was amazing, the staff were well organised and only two of them were serving. The atmosphere was also great it’s a little gem with cozy lighting and very romantic. The food however was out of this world, everything we had which included prawns, chorizo, croquettes, spanish omlette, black pudding with goats cheese and crispy potatoes were all 10/10, cooked to perfection and no complaints at all

This is a hidden gem that serves the best tapas! We ate ours so fast, we forgot to take photos, but they were all delicious. Also, the passion fruit martini is the best I’ve ever had (and I have been trying them every chance I get); the passion fruit juice is fresh! We didn’t save room for the Basque cheesecake, but it looked 100% authentic. Service and atmosphere also outstanding.

Best tapas I have had this year, staff were amazing all so friendly and helpful when choosing dishes. First night in Edinburgh and blown away. Must visit if local, sangria is delicious too.

Arrived without a booking and the place was full, but helpful staff said to come back in half an hour. It was worth it: short menu with specials and an adequate wine list made a great meal, well cooked and well presented. The aubergine was a delight, and the patatas plentiful. Great little place Tucked away, but worth the walk.

Very, very good. Even for Spanish standards. Gambas chili wasn't standard but it's moreish and the prawns were of good quality. Special tortilla(chorizo and Manchego) was absolutely delicious, texture was great and the umami from the two ingredients came through Pork cheeks didn't have much character Octopus was well executed Blood sausage was umami, goats cheese and fig jam were fine. They didn't complement the blood sausage particularly, but they didn't disagree w it either. Decent The milk ice cream and raspberry jam were both of great quality and complemented the tarta de Santiago well Overall, very high level Spanish food in Edinburgh. Even in Spain, it would be considered above average, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they're the best in Edinburgh

Brilliant! Top marks for food, service and atmosphere. Four of us went for dinner, ended up order most of the menu. Everything was delicious. Best padron peppers I've ever had. Lovely bottle of cava too. Staff really friendly. Will return!
